MARRIAGE IN NORTHERN CYPRUS: DOCUMENTS AND LEGAL PROCEDURE

Getting married in Northern Cyprus: What documents are required?

Once you decide to get married in the TRNC you need to follow a legal procedure.

If you are Turkish Cypriot citizen, you need to submit the following documents:
  • Identification Card
  • Parents' identification card copies
  • Certificate showing that there is no impediment to getting married.
  • The divorce certificate, if you have been divorced.
  • Cope of the Title Deed if you own an immovable property
  • Health report
* For the UK citizens a different procedure is required. Please contact our office for further information.

It is possible for foreign nationals to get married in TRNC if they are lawfully resident or even tourist here.

If you or your fiancée, or both are foreign nationals, you will need to provide the following information:
  • Passport
  • Muhtar's Certificate / Ins & Outs Report (for tourist)
  • Residence Permit or Copy of the passport with a entry stamp
  • Original Birth Certificate
  • Certificate showing that there is no impediment to getting married, issued by the official authorities of the country of citizenship*
  • *If you and your partner have never been married before, you can be exempt from submitting the Certificate of No Impediment issued by the official authorities of the country of origin. Instead, our law firm will prepare the similar document that would be valid for your application.

For foreign nationals, all documents must be translated in Turkish and be either apostilled or certified by the Turkish Cypriot representative office or the Turkish Embassy.

Citizens of the Republic of Turkey who wish to marry foreigners cannot do so in the TRNC. The marriage must be conducted at the Turkish Embassy in Lefkoşa.
